Update: Roman Kamyshnyy sentenced to life in prison – Two Youths Found Dead in Saint John Home

On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, around 7:00 a.m., the Saint John Police Force responded to a 911 call at a home on Skaling Court in Saint John. Upon arriving, officers forced entry into the house and found two male youths, aged 10 and 17, dead.

They also found 46-year-old Roman Kamyshnyy inside, who was injured. Kamyshnyy was arrested and given first aid before being rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. He is currently in police custody.

Kamyshnyy is facing two counts of first-degree murder.

The investigation is ongoing, with support from the Saint John Police Forensic Identification Services, the Major Crime Unit, and the Family Protection Unit, in collaboration with the Coroner’s office.

At the time, Kamyshnyy was found unfit to stand trial, following a five-day psychiatric assessment, and has been ordered to undergo a further 30-day assessment.

Update June 24th 2026: A jury has convicted 46-year-old Roman Kamyshnyy of two counts of first-degree murder in the fatal stabbings of two boys, aged 10 and 17, in Saint John, New Brunswick. The verdict was delivered Thursday after jurors spent parts of two days deliberating following a two-week trial that included testimony from 24 witnesses. Kamyshnyy will receive an automatic life sentence and will not be eligible for parole for 25 years.

Prosecutors argued the killings were planned and deliberate, pointing to evidence including goodbye letters, scheduled emails and a video message recorded before an apparent suicide attempt. Kamyshnyy testified that he could not remember the events surrounding the deaths and denied planning the killings.

Update August 13th 2026: The father, Roman Kamyshnyy, 46, has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years after being convicted of first-degree murder in the stabbing deaths of his two sons. The judge described the killings as an act of vengeance against Kamyshnyy’s ex-wife following their divorce, calling the murders horrific and emphasizing the devastating impact on the family and community.
