56-Year-Old Burma Skye Charged with Second-Degree Murder in Death of 2-Year-Old in Bloodvein

On January 24, 2025, at around 8:30 p.m., the Bloodvein RCMP responded to a report about a suspicious child death after a female child, under three years old, was brought into the Nursing Station with severe injuries. Tragically, the child was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

The following day, on January 25, RCMP Major Crime Services and Forensic Identification Services arrived in the community and executed a search warrant at the child’s home.

An autopsy conducted on January 27 confirmed that the child died from injuries consistent with a homicide.

On January 29, Burma Skye, a 56-year-old woman from Bloodvein First Nation, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection to the death. She was the child’s primary caregiver and has since been remanded into custody.

Sgt. Laura LeDrew, the lead investigator from RCMP Major Crime Services, expressed the deep impact of the crime, stating, “The homicide of a 2-year-old girl is not just a loss for her family but a profound loss to the community. This is a senseless crime that will have a profound impact on the community, first responders, and investigating officers. Our number one priority right now is seeking justice for the victim.”

The investigation is ongoing as Bloodvein RCMP, along with RCMP Major Crime Services, continue to look into the case.
