Toronto police resonded to reports of a shooting in the area of Bathurst Street and Ranee Avenue on October 7th at approximately 11:38pm.
Police arrived to find Shane Shannon Stanford, 33, of Toronto, in a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. Stanford was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Update October 30th
Toronto Police Service executed two search warrants, in the Jane Street and Wilson Avenue area of Toronto and one in Welland, Ontario, with the assistance of the Niagara Regional Police Service on October 29th.
As a result of the search, police arrested Raheem McLaughlin, 27, of Toronto, and charged him with First Degree Murder. A 17-year-old girl, from Toronto, has also been charged with
Accessory After The Fact to Murder.
Update May 14th 2026
A Toronto jury found Dwayne McLaughlin guilty of second-degree murder in the 2020 shooting death of YMCA employee Shane Stanford.
Court heard Stanford was driving home late at night when a car chased him through North York and someone inside opened fire, killing him. McLaughlin admitted he was driving the car but claimed he wasn’t the shooter and didn’t know a killing would happen.
Prosecutors pointed to surveillance video showing his vehicle following Stanford and argued he was involved in the attack. After the shooting, McLaughlin sold the car and disposed of the gun.
He was convicted of second-degree murder and faces a mandatory life sentence with parole eligibility after at least 10 years.
