Police Investigate Suspicious Death of Vernon Woman

RCMP in Vernon are investigating the death of a 54-year-old woman, with police saying criminality is suspected.

On the evening of Monday, August 24, 2026, frontline officers with the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious death at a basement suite on 24th Avenue. The woman was found unresponsive inside the residence.

The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP Serious Crime Unit has been involved in the investigation since it began.

“Our Serious Crime Unit has been engaged in the investigation from the onset,” said Cpl. Tania Finn, Media Relations Officer with the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP. “As the team continues to follow up on all relevant information, police are reaching out to the public for assistance with this investigation.”

Investigators are reviewing a number of potential sources of evidence, including video surveillance from the surrounding area. Police are specifically asking anyone who may have dashcam footage from 24th Avenue between 34th Street and 39th Street to come forward.

The footage could be particularly helpful if it was recorded between 10 a.m. Saturday, August 22, and 7 p.m. Monday, August 24, 2026.

Anyone with potentially relevant dashcam footage is asked to contact the Vernon RCMP Detachment at 250-545-7171.

The investigation remains in its early stages, and police have indicated that further details are being withheld at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation.
