Burnaby BC 2026 Homicide Victim List

Burnaby RCMP responded to reports of gunshots near 18th Avenue and Humphries Avenue at around 1:30am on August 30th. A suspect vehicle had reportedly left the area before officers arrived, and no injured victims were initially found.

Later that afternoon, police were called to conduct a wellness check at an apartment complex on Kingsway, about a block from where the earlier shooting had been reported. Officers found 85-year-old Chang Yong Cho inside the apartment and confirmed he had died after being struck by a stray bullet.

Police say they have identified a group of youths who may have been involved in the incident or may have information that could help solve the case.

Investigators are now urging the youths they have identified to come forward and are asking parents who believe their children may have information to encourage them to cooperate with police.

Police are also appealing to witnesses and anyone who may have dashcam or security-camera footage from the area between 12:30 and 2 a.m. on Aug. 30. Anyone with information can contact the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team at 1-877-551-4448 or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.

The investigation remains ongoing as police work to determine exactly what happened and the roles of those involved.
