Star Blanket Cree Nation Homicide: Saskatchewan RCMP Charge Youth with Second-Degree Murder

Saskatchewan 2026 Homicide Victim List

Shortly after midnight on February 18, officers with the File Hills First Nations Police Service responded to a report of a homicide at a residence on the First Nation. Upon arrival, police located an adult man deceased inside the home. A male youth was arrested at the scene.

Because the File Hills First Nations Police Service does not have a Major Crimes branch, the investigation was turned over to the Saskatchewan RCMP. The RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit subsequently assumed carriage of the case.

Following further investigation, the youth was formally charged on February 18 with one count of second-degree murder. In accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the accused cannot be identified. Police have confirmed that the victim and the accused were known to one another but are not releasing additional details about their relationship or the victim’s identity.

The youth is scheduled to appear in Fort Qu’Appelle Provincial Court on February 19.
