Winnipeg, Manitoba 2026 Homicide Victim List

Officers with the Winnipeg Police Service were called to a home in the 500 block of Young Street following reports of a homicide on February 14, 2026, just before 7:30 a.m.

When North District General Patrol members arrived, they found a young woman who had died from her injuries. The case was immediately turned over to the Homicide Unit for further investigation.

Police have identified the victim as 18-year-old Avontai Hartleib, a member of Sachigo Lake First Nation who had been living in Winnipeg.

On February 17, 2026, investigators identified a suspect in the case and took a youth into custody. A 14-year-old boy has since been charged with second-degree murder and criminal negligence causing death.
