RCMP make an arrest in a fatal shooting near Vernon BC

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP received a report of a possible shooting involving a vehicle fleeing the scene on Back Enderby Road in Spallumcheen on September 20th at approximately 11:20am.

Oh arrival police located a deceased person in the 4500-block of Enderby Road. The victim’s identity and gender is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

RCMP Air Services and the Southeast District Emergency Response Team and Vernon/North Okanagan officers located the vehicle. Shortly after, one man was located and arrested near Armstrong and taken into custody. 

S/Sgt. Janelle Shoihet of the BC RCMP said  “At this time, we believe that the man arrested and the deceased person were known to each other and there is no ongoing threat to public safety.

Update:
The victim has been identified as Dakota Samoleski. Jevon Daniel Smith, 46, is facing a second-degree murder charge.
