Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says its director has found reasonable grounds to believe an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer may have committed a criminal offence in connection with a fatal shooting in Norfolk County last August. The incident involved a 22-year-old man who died after being shot during an attempted arrest following a police pursuit on Lake Erie.
According to the SIU investigation, officers tried to stop the man while he was operating a personal watercraft on August 12, 2025. He allegedly fled, left the watercraft near the MacDonald Turkey Point Marina, and ran into a wooded area. During the arrest attempt that followed, an officer discharged their firearm, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. As a result, Constable Quade Odrowski has been charged with manslaughter and released with conditions, with a court appearance scheduled for June 2, 2026. The SIU says it will not comment further while the case is before the courts.
