Ontario Provincial Police are investigating after human remains were discovered on North River Road, north of Cedar Lake, in Head, Clara and Maria Township on December 28, 2025.

Police say there is no indication of an ongoing risk to the public, though residents can expect a heightened police presence while the investigation continues. The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Hakeem Muhikira of Ottawa.

The investigation is being handled by the North Bay OPP Crime Unit under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. Additional support has been provided by the OPP Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit, and Forensic Identification Services.

Police have not said whether the death is considered suspicious, how long the man may have been deceased, or the precise location where the body was discovered.
