Toronto Police were called to the area of Charles Street and Yonge Street early Friday morning, December 26, 2025, after reports of a fire at around 6:11 a.m.

According to investigators, the suspect is accused of intentionally setting a tent and mattress on fire and placing additional items on top to intensify the blaze. The victim was pulled from the burning tent and rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police later confirmed the victim died on Monday, December 29. He has been identified as 51-year-old Keith Appleby.

Toronto resident Loewen Wolfe, 36, has been charged with first-degree murder.
