Two Men Charged in the Fatal 2019 Shooting of Rex Gill at a Kamloops hotel

Over seven years after the fatal shooting of Rex Gill in a Kamloops hotel in January 2019, two men, Hugh Alexander McIntosh, 58, and Brandon Dale Fiddick, 34, have been arrested and jointly charged with second-degree murder.

According to reports, Gill was killed while smoking a cigarette outside the Comfort Inn and Suites Hotel in Aberdeen.

Gill was killed on the same day as another man, Cody Mathieu, in a separate hotel shooting just 90 minutes apart. Mathieu was shot and killed outside the Super 8 Motel in Valleyview. He was known to police and had been involved in the local drug trade, but no charges have been laid in connection with his death.

Although police previously combined the investigations believing both gang-related shootings were connected, they have not yet confirmed if charges have been filed in Mathieu’s death.

Authorities reiterated that Gill had no criminal background or ties to the suspects, confirming prior suspicions that he was an innocent victim killed in a case of mistaken identity. Kamloops RCMP leadership commended the Serious Crime Unit’s persistence over the years, expressing hope that the charges will bring closure to Gill’s family and the community.
