Hamilton, Ontario 2026 Homicide Victim List

Hamilton police were called to the report of a shooting at Jackson Square on April 24th at approximately 5:10pm. Police said the victim managed to walk to the wireless store where he collapsed.

On arrival, police and paramedics located a 16-year-old boy with critical injuries. He was rushed to hospital, where he died of his injuries. He has been identified as Nabil Askafe of Hamilton.

Police believe the shooting was targeted and said an altercation had happened before the shooting.

The suspects fled the scene through the doors at 110 King Street West and were headed in an eastern direction. They are described as white males, one wearing a grey track suit and one wearing a blue track suit.

I spoke to an elderly witness at the scene who said they heard four gunshots before people began running for the exits “It was complete chaos” he said. Another witness said he was frisked by police while exiting the mall because he matched the description of the suspect.

Update April 25th
Staff Sargent Rob Dianni said they are searching for a 14-year-old boy, who is facing a charge of second-degree murder. Police are currently seeking judicial authorization to release the suspect’s name and photo. Police are also asking the individual who was with the suspect to also come forward so investigators can talk to him.

Hamilton Police announced Sunday night, April 26th, that the suspect surrendered to authorities, just one day after investigators received court approval to publicly identify him.

Police have now spoken to all the individuals involved in Friday’s altercation at Jackson Square and are not looking for any more suspects.
