Edmonton police responded to multiple reports of gunshots heard in the area of 106 Street and 74 Avenue on February 26, 2024, at approximately 6 p.m.

On arrival, police located 35-year-old Ozan Budak deceased. An autopsy was completed on Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be gunshot wounds and the manner of death as homicide.

Update: Arthur Wayne Penner, 36, has now been charged with second degree murder in Budak’s death. He is currently remanded in custody. His next court date is scheduled for Oct. 23, 2025.
