Surrey RCMP responded to a residence in the 13500-block of 84 Avenue for a report of a deceased person on January 9th at approximately 6:00pm.

Police arrived to find 62-year-old Brian Chapman from Surrey deceased. IHIT said Chapman is known to police but had no police history since 2020. “This incident is not random and at this time, homicide investigators do not believe the shooting is connected to the ongoing Lower Mainland Gang Conflict” said Sgt. David Lee.

Initial belief is that the actual shooting incident may have occurred at around 7 a.m. on January 9. Homicide investigators are asking witnesses who may have heard or seen anything unusual on January 9 at around 7 a.m.to contact police at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
