Update: Brett Overby facing a second degree murder charge in the disappearance of Christine Wood

Christine Wood 21, was visiting Winnipeg from Oxford House First Nation with her family, when she was last seen Aug. 19 2016. She was last seen leaving a Hotel on Barrie st, where she had been staying with her family.

January 2017, the Missing Persons Unit began collaborating with Homicide investigators in search of Miss Wood.

Police obtained a search warrant on March 21st 2017, at the 300 block of Burrows Avenue and arrested Brett Overby 30. According to police Overby was arrested and interviewed at that time, but not formally charged.

Investigators gathered evidence for several days at the home of Overby. Evidence collected at Overby’s home lead investigators to believe that Wood was murdered at his Burrows Avenue home. Forensic evidence was confirmed on April 6th, and formal charges were laid. Brett Ronald Overby, 30, has been charged with second degree murder of Christine Wood.

The body of Christine Wood has still not been recovered.

Update: The body of Christine Wood was found by a landowner who was checking his crops in the R.M. of Springfield on Thursday June 1st. Initially Police could not identify the body, however an autopsy was performed on June 2nd and revealed the identity to be that of Christine Wood.
