Toronto Homicide 2 – An elderly woman is dead following an assault in the Financial District

Toronto police were called to the report of an assault in the area of Yonge and King Streets on January 20th at approximately 11:40am.

Police said 89-year-old Xiaoxia Wang was walking on a sidewalk at the northeast corner of Yonge and King streets when the suspect pushed her to the ground and fled the scene. The victim was located with injuries to her head and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The suspect who police described as approx 40 years old, red hair braided at the back, beard, thin build, wearing a brown vest, grey hoodie, blue jeans, was later arrested on Richmond Street.

Ryan Cunneen, 37, of Toronto was arrested on January 20th and originally charged with:

  1. Aggravated Assault
  2. Mischief Under $5000

On January 24th Toronto police announced that his charges upgraded to:

  1. Manslaughter

He will attend court on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at College Park Courts, in room 501 at 10 a.m.
