Update: Charges laid – Sirac Tesfay dead, and a woman injured in Toronto’s 4th homicide of the year

Toronto police responded to a report of a shooting in the Yonge St & Summerhill Ave area on January 29th at approximately 8:00pm. Police said the shooting happened in a laneway between townhouses on Mathersfield Drive and Pricefield Road.

Police said Sirac Tesfay, 23, and a 27-year-old woman were located suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite life saving efforts Tesfay was pronounced deceased at the scene. The woman was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition.

Witnesses reported seeing a smaller light-coloured, possibly grey or silver, 4 door sedan with dark tinted windows seen leaving the area in a northbound direction on Yonge Street at a high rate of speed.

Update, on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, Henok Mesgena, 20, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1. First Degree Murder
2. Attempt Murder
