British Columbia 2026 Homicide Victim List

A man has now been charged with murder following a violent incident on Quadra Street in Saanich that left one person dead.

The assault happened shortly before 5 p.m. on July 3 in the 4000 block of Quadra Street. Emergency responders attended the scene, where the victim was found with serious injuries and transported to hospital in critical condition.

Police arrested 30-year-old Suleyman Budak at the scene. He was initially charged with one count of aggravated assault and remained in custody. Investigators said the suspect and the victim were known to each other.

On July 5, police confirmed the victim, Mirac Kutbay had died from their injuries. Following the victim’s death, Budak’s aggravated assault charge was upgraded to murder, and the investigation was transferred from the Saanich Police Major Crime Unit to the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU).

Investigators continue to seek witnesses or anyone who may have captured video of the incident as the homicide investigation remains ongoing.
