RCMP Investigates A Fatal Shooting Incident in Urabinville, Western PEI

At approximately 8:00 p.m. on August 8th, officers responded to reports of gunfire along Route 125, also known as Hackmatack Road.

On arrival, police located a vehicle that had veered off the road and collided with a telephone pole in a ditch. A man, believed to be the driver, was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 50-year-old woman from Summerside sustained serious injuries and was transported to Prince County Hospital.

Emergency crews from Island EMS and the Wellington Fire Department, along with staff from the Provincial Department of Highways, assisted at the scene. Additional support was provided by RCMP Police Dog Services, Queens District RCMP, PEI RCMP Traffic Services, and the RCMP Forensic Investigative Section.

Police believe the shooting was a targeted and isolated event, which did not meet the criteria for an Alert Ready notification. The PEI RCMP Major Crime Unit is leading the ongoing investigation.
