Update: According to the Hamilton Spectator, Sabrina Kauldhar reportedly told a psychiatrist she didn’t want to return to jail and asked the doctor to say she remained unfit to stand trial, a court heard on June 6th 2025.

It also came to light that Kauldhar had assaulted both a fellow patient and a staff member while receiving care at CAMH earlier this year. Kauldhar was originally found unfit for trial in March, following testimony from a forensic psychiatrist who had attempted to evaluate her three times since her arrest last year. The psychiatrist reported minimal cooperation, describing Kauldhar’s behavior as hostile with only brief eye contact.

On Friday, the Crown asked Ontario Court Justice Russell Silverstein to reconsider that ruling. A new psychiatrist testified that Kauldhar had shown significant improvement, was responding to treatment, no longer exhibited signs of psychosis or aggression, and had been communicating with staff in a clear and structured way.

Justice Russell Silverstein will deliver his decision on June 11th.
