On the evening of July 7, 2025, around 8:31 p.m., officers from the RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit (SPOSU) responded to a report of an ongoing assault at a home near 194th Street and 66A Avenue in Surrey.

When officers arrived, they were confronted by a man armed with a weapon. A confrontation followed, during which police discharged their firearms. Despite efforts by BC Emergency Health Services (EHS), the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Inside the residence, police also found a woman who was deceased.

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) has been informed and is currently reviewing the actions taken by police during the incident.

Meanwhile, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken over the parallel investigation into the woman’s death.

IHIT is continuing its investigation in collaboration with RCMP SPOSU, the Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS), and the BC Coroners Service.

Although the investigation is still in its early phases, police believe the incident was isolated, involving the two individuals found deceased. Authorities have confirmed there are no remaining suspects and no ongoing threat to the public.

The man and woman, both in their 60s, were in a relationship and lived together at the residence. Preliminary findings suggest officers were responding to a domestic violence situation involving a physical assault.

“This is not the outcome anyone wanted,” said Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. “Our thoughts are with the families of the deceased, as well as the first responders and witnesses affected by this tragic event.”
