Update Darion Burns & Frank La Forge Charged With First-Degree Murder and Attempted Murder in Keeseekoowenin First Nation

In the early morning hours of July 28, 2025, around 2:45 a.m., Yellowhead RCMP responded to a report of a possible shooting at a home on Keeseekoowenin First Nation.

Upon arrival, officers found two people with gunshot wounds.

RCMP and Emergency Medical Services provided CPR to a 33-year-old woman who had sustained critical injuries. Despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the ongoing investigation into the fatal shooting of the woman in Keeseekoowenin First Nation, the Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services have identified a suspect.

Frank La Forge, 52, from Keeseekoowenin, is wanted on charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder.

La Forge is described as being 5’8” tall, weighing around 150 pounds, with brown eyes and a bald head. Authorities warn that he should not be approached, and anyone who spots him is urged to call 9-1-1 immediately. Police believe he is currently in the Yellowhead area of Manitoba and has ties to Kamsack and Yorkton in Saskatchewan.

Both Yellowhead RCMP and Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services are continuing their investigation to identify any additional suspects.

Update: On August 11, 2025, Frank La Forge turned himself in to RCMP in Winnipeg and was arrested on the following charges:

  • First degree murder
  • Attempted murder

Update: Further investigation led RCMP to identify 31-year-old Darion Burns of Keseekoowenin First Nation as a second suspect in the case.

On Thursday March 19th 2026, officers from the Yellowhead and Russell RCMP located Burns while he was driving on Highway 45. They conducted a traffic stop and arrested him without incident.

Burns is facing the following charges:

  • First-degree murder
  • Attempted murder
  • Obstructing justice

He remains in custody as the investigation continues.
