On Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at 11:41 p.m., Edmonton police officers responded to reports of a fight involving multiple individuals at the MacEwan LRT station, located near 105 Avenue and 104 Street.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered a deceased male youth and promptly arrested three youths and two adults. Authorities believe that all involved suspects have been apprehended.
An autopsy has confirmed the cause of death for a 13-year-old male was a stab wound and the manner of death has been ruled a homicide.
A gofundme campaign has been created to help the family cover funeral arrangements/costs and related expenses.
Police said the deceased was part of a group of four youths and one 18-year-old male who reportedly assaulted a 34-year-old male and a 32-year-old female at the LRT station. The group of youths and the pair were not known to each other.
The three youths, a 15-year-old female, a 14-year-old female, and a 14-year-old male, and the 18-year-old male, Destynd Jackson, have been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and possess offensive weapon dangerous to the public in relation to the altercation.
Homicide detectives continue to investigate.
Update March 4th: Homicide investigators consulted with the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service regarding the possibility of laying charges in the Feb. 5, 2025 death of the 13-year-old male, and have determined that there is no likelihood of conviction due to evidence that the homicide was committed in self-defense. As such, no charges will be laid in relation to the youth’s death.
The other three youths, a 15-year-old female, a 14-year-old female, and a 14-year-old male, and the 18-year-old male, Destynd Jackson, were charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and possess offensive weapon dangerous to the public.
