Edmonton Police Homicide unit investigates the discovery of a body following a fire

Edmonton Fire Rescue Services called Edmonton police regarding a death in Millcreek Ravine just north of 85 Avenue and west of the Millcreek Ravine parking lot at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2024.

EFRS located a deceased person after extinguishing the fire.

EPS Homicide Section has since taken over the investigation and detectives continue to work to identify the deceased. An autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday, July 3, 2024.

Investigators are seeking tips related to this death and ask anyone who frequents the ravine and may have noticed activity in this area to contact the police as soon as possible.

Police are searching for a grey 2012 to 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV, which is believed to have been parked in the Mill Creek Ravine parking lot just before the arrival of Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) at 8:12 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2024.

Investigators believe the vehicle and its occupant(s)may have witnessed activity related to Threna Waskahat’s death and are asking for the public’s assistance in locating the vehicle and its occupant(s). Photos of the vehicle captured by nearby surveillance cameras are included below. Citizens with information can contact the EPS at 780-423-4567.
