Edmonton, Alberta 2026 Homicide Victim List
Edmonton police are investigating a fatal homicide after officers responded to a weapons complaint early Saturday morning.
At approximately 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 4, 2026, Downtown Branch patrol officers were called to the area of 106 Avenue and 113 Street. When they arrived, they found an injured man suffering from serious injuries.
Paramedics treated the victim at the scene before transporting him to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The Edmonton Police Service Homicide Section has taken over the investigation. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, July 6, 2026, as investigators work to determine the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a dark-coloured SUV believed to have fled the area between 5:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. Investigators are requesting any video footage captured between 111 Street and 115 Street, and 103 Avenue to 107 Avenue during that time.
Update: An autopsy completed by the Edmonton Medical Examiner’s Office on Monday, July 6, 2026, confirmed that 38-year-old Alexander Edward Colin Reid died from gunshot wounds. His death has been officially ruled a homicide.
The following day, July 7, Edmonton police arrested 19-year-old Hayden Halcrow and charged him with second-degree murder in connection with Reid’s death. Halcrow also faces several additional firearms-related charges and was already wanted on an attempted murder warrant stemming from a separate shooting in May.
Investigators continue to ask the public for surveillance or dashcam footage from the area bounded by 111 Street to 115 Street and 103 Avenue to 107 Avenue that may show a dark-coloured SUV leaving the scene between 6:30 a.m. and 6:45 a.m. on July 4. Detectives are also seeking footage from 113 Street between 105 Avenue and 106 Avenue recorded between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. that morning.
Police say they are aware of an incident that occurred shortly before Reid was killed in which someone handled a firearm recklessly in a crowd. Detective Michael Walkom of the Homicide Section is urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has video evidence to come forward.
