Calgary Police Investigating the Fatal Stabbing of Deborah Onwu, a professional caseworker.

Calgary police were called to a residence in the 1800 block of 27 Avenue S.W on report of a stabbing on October 25th at approximately 2:45 a.m.

Police and paramedics arrived to find a female victim suffering from serious injuries, she was declared deceased at the scene. Police do not believe the stabbing was random, and the investigation lead police to arrest a suspect downtown around 5:00 a.m on October 25th.

Update October 25th
Calgary police have identified the victim as Deborah Onwu, 47, a professional caseworker supporting a man at his assisted living residence.  Police said it is believed that a verbal and physical confrontation occurred between the man and his caseworker, at which time the woman was stabbed. Police have arrested Brandon Jacob Spencer Newman, 18, of Calgary, and charged him with second degree murder.
