Ottawa Police announced on March 13th, 2023, that the Homicide Unit upgraded charges in the October 26th, 2021, death of a seven-week-old infant on Winthrop Private.
Boravy Buth, 35, of Ottawa, has now been charged with:
- Second Degree Murder
- Criminal Negligence Causing Death
- Failing to Provide the Necessaries of Life
The charges against the man, Patrick O’CONNOR, 35, her ex partner, remain unchanged.
Boravy Buth and Patrick O’Connor have pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in the death of baby Colton. Buth and O’Connor told police Colton had fallen off the bed, however, O’Connor was the last to see the baby alive and the first to see him dead.
Update April 27th 2026: After six days of deliberations, a jury in Ottawa has reached a mixed outcome in the case involving the death of a seven-week-old baby boy in October 2021.
According to CTV News, a forensic pathologist told the court that the infant’s injuries were far too severe to be explained by an accident.
Dr. Christopher Milroy testified in March, describing the nature of the injuries in detail: “Head injury, meaning blunt force trauma to the head causing fatal brain damage, compression of the chest causing congestion and bruising on the chest,” he stated.
He also pointed to additional injuries in the child’s legs, explaining: “There were metaphyseal fractures in both of his legs which are caused by ‘twisting and pulling of the leg,’” he said. “They are associated with being an inflicted injury in children. In other words, they don’t come about by normal daily activity handling of a child. Has to be more than that.”
The jury found Patrick O’Connor guilty of second-degree murder, however, the jury was unable to reach a verdict for the child’s mother, Boravy Buth, resulting in a mistrial on the charge against her.
The case had been heard over several weeks before the jury began deliberating.
