York Regional Police’s Homicide Unit is asking for the public’s help following a deadly home invasion in Vaughan.
On Sunday, August 31, 2025, just before 1 a.m., officers responded to a call about a break-in at a home near Andreeta Drive and Barons Street. When they arrived, they found a man inside the residence with serious injuries. Despite emergency medical efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim has been identified by the Office of the Chief Coroner as 46-year-old Abdul Aleem FAROOQI of Vaughan.
Police are currently searching for at least three suspects, all of whom were seen wearing dark clothing and face coverings. Officers remain in the area collecting evidence and speaking with residents.
Investigators believe this was a targeted attack and are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has security footage from the area to come forward.
Update November 12th: Through a comprehensive investigation, Amir Wiam Mohammad Abuhmaid, 26, of Toronto, has been charged with:
- First Degree Murder
- Breaking and Entering with Intent
- Robbery with a Firearm
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Breach of Probation
An arrest warrant has been issued for a 16-year-old who is facing charges of:
- First-Degree Murder
- Break and Enter with Intent
- Robbery Using a Firearm
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
34-year-old Jahvon St Patrick MCNAIRN from the City of Toronto has been charged with Accessory After the Fact.
Choszen Roshan Phillip, 25, of Toronto, and two 16-year-olds, also from Toronto, have all been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000.
