Amherst, Nova Scotia Shooting: Man Killed on Prince Arthur Street, Two Arrested as Police Search for Michael James Ryan

Amherst police were called to Prince Arthur Street after reports of a loud bang and a man lying on the ground, apparently injured, around 6:51 p.m. on April 13, 2026,.

When police arrived, they found a 41-year-old man suffering from a serious gunshot wound to the back. The victim was transported to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. He has been identified as Christopher Leggett.

The suspects fled the area in a vehicle shortly after the shooting in dark-coloured Subaru SUV. According to reports, the firearm used appeared to be a long gun.

The investigation is still in its early stages, with members of the Major Crime Unit leading the case alongside other officers. Police say there is no indication of any ongoing threat to the public.

Update: On April 16, authorities charged three people, 56-year-old Sean Eugene Patriquin, 42-year-old Natasha Deborah Austin, and 34-year-old Michael James Ryan, with first-degree murder. Patriquin and Austin were arrested in Moncton, New Brunswick, while Ryan remains at large and is believed to be evading police.

The suspect vehicle, a dark Subaru SUV with a previously stolen licence plate, has since been recovered. Police continue to investigate with support from multiple agencies and are asking the public for help locating Ryan, warning that he should not be approached.
