Virden RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing at a home in the Sioux Valley Dakota Nation community on December 30, 2025, at approximately 4:55 a.m.

When officers arrived, they were informed that the suspect had already fled the scene on foot. Two men, ages 23 and 25, were found at the residence suffering from stab wounds.

The 25-year-old was taken to hospital by emergency medical services in critical condition and later died from his injuries. The 23-year-old was treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Police located the suspect a short time later at another residence within the community. He was taken into custody without incident with assistance from RCMP members from the Blue Hills Detachment, the West District Crime Reduction Enforcement Support Team (CREST), and Police Dog Services.

A 16-year-old male from Sioux Valley Dakota Nation has been charged with second-degree murder.
