Manitoba First Nation Police Service responded to a report of a deceased man at a home in Opaskwayak Cree Nation on the evening of August 24, 2025, around 8:50 p.m.
Due to the nature of the man’s injuries, Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services were brought in to lead the investigation. An autopsy later confirmed the death was a result of homicide.
Investigators learned that the 34-year-old victim had been socializing with three other individuals when an argument escalated, leading to the victim being shot.
On August 27, 2025, police arrested 27-year-old Wyatt Campbell in Moose Lake without incident. He has been charged with second-degree murder and remains in custody awaiting a court appearance.
The investigation involved support from The Pas RCMP’s Forensic Identification Services, Police Dog Services, Moose Lake RCMP, and the Manitoba First Nation Police Service.
