Quebec 2026 Homicide Victim List
Police were dispatched around 1:45 p.m. on Sunday to a home on La Petite Caroline Street in the municipality of Rougemont after reports of a disturbance.
Inside the residence, officers found a 40-year-old woman with critical injuries. According to Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Béatrice Dorsainville, that Véronic Champagne later died that evening.
A man at the scene was also seriously injured and was transported to hospital. Authorities say he is currently not in a condition to be questioned by investigators.
Update February 17th: The SQ announced that David Guertin, 41, has been charged with second-degree murder and arson in connection to the death of Champagne. Police said Champagne and Guertin were ex-partners.
