The 2025 Saskatchewan Homicide Victim List is available here
Turtleford RCMP responded to reports of three injured men at a rural property northwest of Turtleford, Saskatchewan on November 5, 2025, around 12:30 p.m.
Officers and EMS attempted lifesaving measures, but all three men were pronounced dead at the scene.
Madison Jimmy, 25, a mother from Thunderchild First Nation, was arrested the same day and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of 28-year-old Tonio Cantell from Island Lake First Nation. She is scheduled to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on November 7, 2025.
The other victims include a 46-year-old man from Turtleford and a third man who has not yet been identified. RCMP confirmed all three men died from gunshot wounds and that multiple firearms were seized from the property.
The investigation continues with assistance from RCMP forensic and investigative units and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service. Investigators do not believe there are additional victims or suspects.
Update: According to CBC, Jimmy admits to shooting Cantell but says it was in self-defense. She claims the shooting occurred during a violent confrontation at a farm near Turtleford, where three men were killed in a short span. According to Jimmy, Cantell had just shot her fiancé, Dustin Roberts, and then threatened her and another woman with a firearm, leaving her no choice but to shoot him.
After the incident, Jimmy drove with Cantell’s girlfriend and another friend to the Turtleford RCMP detachment to surrender. Police confirmed the deaths of Cantell, Roberts (46), and a 30-year-old man from Big Island Lake Cree Territory, all from gunshot wounds. Multiple firearms were seized, and authorities say there are no other suspects or victims.
Cantell had a criminal past, including gang-related offenses, and had been wanted nationwide in 2022 while on statutory release. Jimmy has a minimal criminal record, limited to a DUI and a common assault charge. Her family stresses she is not involved with gangs and hopes her background and circumstances will be considered in court.
She is expected back in court on December 18 in Lloydminster.
