Burnaby RCMP officers responded to reports of gunfire near McKay Avenue and Kingsborough Street on November 5th at around 6:30pm near the Station Square entrance to the mall.
When they arrived, they found a male victim suffering from injuries. Despite emergency efforts, the man died at the scene.
A short time later, police discovered a vehicle on fire near Kingsway and Inman Avenue. Investigators are working to determine if the burning vehicle is connected to the shooting.
Although the investigation is in its early stages, police believe the incident was targeted and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. Officers remain in the area collecting evidence.
Update: IHIT is identifying the victim as 19-year-old Connor Sheriff, in an effort to advance the investigation.

“This was a targeted and brazen shooting in a high-traffic area,” says Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. “Those involved displayed a complete disregard for public safety.”
IHIT is asking anyone who was in the areas of McKay Avenue and Kingsborough Street or Kingsway and Inman Avenue between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on November 5, 2025, and who may have witnessed the incident or has dash-cam or security footage, to contact investigators at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448).
