Moose Lake RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing outside a home on Portage Road on the evening of June 24, 2025, at approximately 8:30 p.m.
When officers arrived, they found a 40-year-old man suffering from life-threatening injuries. Despite being rushed to the local Nursing Station, he was sadly pronounced dead.
A 21-year-old man was arrested at the scene and remains in police custody as the investigation continues. More details are expected to emerge in the coming days as authorities work to determine what led to this tragic event.
In an update released on June 25, RCMP confirmed that charges have been laid in both recent deaths. Bruce Walker-Ballantyne, 21, has been charged with Second Degree Murder in the June 24 death of a 40-year-old man following a stabbing on Portage Road.
Shortly after midnight, on June 25th Moose Lake RCMP received a report of an assault involving a weapon at a residence on Traders Road. While en route, officers encountered community members rushing a 19-year-old man with critical injuries to the Nursing Station. Tragically, the young man was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
A short time later, police arrested a 26-year-old man at a nearby home in connection with the assault.
In this case, Ahab McNabb, 26, has been charged with Second Degree Murder in the death of the 19-year-old on Traders Road. Both accused are from Mosakahiken Cree Nation and remain in custody.
