A 57-year-old Winnipeg woman has died from injuries sustained in an August assault, and police have arrested a woman in connection with her death.

On August 18, 2026, at about 8:40 p.m., officers with the Central District General Patrol responded to a residence in the 100 block of Young Street following a report that a woman had been assaulted.

Police found the victim at the residence suffering from injuries. She was taken to hospital and initially stabilized, but her condition later worsened. The suspect had reportedly left the scene before officers arrived.

On September 20th, Brenda Kate Cromarty, 57, died in hospital from her injuries. Cromarty was a member of St. Theresa Point First Nation and had been living in Winnipeg.

The Winnipeg Police Service Homicide Unit continued investigating the case and identified 48-year-old Michelle Margaret Jane Robinson as the suspect. Following consultation with Manitoba Justice, a manslaughter charge was authorized.

Robinson was arrested on September 25th by members of the Manitoba Integrated Violent Offenders Apprehension Unit in Northern Manitoba.

She has been charged with manslaughter and remains in custody.
