Toronto police are investigating two separate vehicle fires that resulted in the deaths of two people.
The first incident happened Monday, September 21, 2026, at approximately 11:24 p.m., in the Steeles Avenue East and Reesor Road area. Officers responded to reports of a vehicle burning in a field. Emergency crews attended the scene and located a victim inside the vehicle, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Marcus Charles. Police have also released an image of Charles.
Update: Investigators have identified three people in connection with the murder of Marcus Charles.
Two people have been arrested and charged, while a third suspect remains wanted.
Rushon Powell, 25, of Toronto, has been charged with first-degree murder. He was scheduled to appear at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre, 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Monday, October 5, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. in Room 103.
Shakurwa Jeffrey, 25, of Toronto, has been charged with accessory after the fact to murder. She was scheduled to appear at the same courthouse on Monday, October 5, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. in Room 106.
Devondre Hall, 25, of Toronto, remains at large. Police have issued a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest on a first-degree murder charge. Police have also released his photo.

A second incident was reported shortly after midnight on Tuesday, September 22, at approximately 12:55 a.m., near Royal York Road and Edenbridge Drive. Police responded to reports of a vehicle on fire in a parking lot. A victim was found inside the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The two deaths are being investigated as Toronto’s 27th and 28th homicides of 2026.
The second victim has been identified as 30-year-old Mohamud Kheyre.
Det.-Sgt. Henri Marsman confirmed that both men sustained fatal gunshot wounds prior to the fires.
