A Mississauga woman is now facing a second-degree murder charge after a man who was seriously injured in a stabbing earlier this month died from his injuries.

Peel Regional Police said officers were called to the area of Dixie Road and Dundas Street East shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 6, following reports of a stabbing.

When officers arrived, they found an adult man suffering from a serious stab wound. He was taken to hospital in critical condition.

The following day, 42-year-old Lorena Sanchez of Mississauga was arrested and initially charged with attempted murder. She was held in custody and appeared for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

On September 10, police said the victim died from his injuries. Following his death, the Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau took over the investigation.

Sanchez appeared in Brampton court on September 18, where the charge against her was upgraded from attempted murder to second-degree murder.
