Toronto homicide 36 – Taylor Harker charged with Manslaughter in the death of Gregory Lawrie

Toronto police responded to a call for an assault in the Elizabeth Street and Dundas Street West area on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at approximately 1:30 a.m.

TPS said a man approached a group of people who were outside on a sidewalk, before getting into an altercation with the group. The unprovoked man struck the victim in the head causing him to fall to the ground. The victim was transported to hospital by medics where he succumbed to his injuries. He has been identified as Gregory Lawrie, 50, of Toronto.

Officers searched the area and located Taylor Harker, 25, who was arrested. Harker of Toronto, was charged with:

  1. Aggravated Assault
  2. Assault with a Weapon
  3. two counts of Obstruct Peace Officer
  4. Fail to Comply with Release Order
  5. Possess Device while Prohibited 
  6. Breach Probation

    As a result of the autopsy, the charge has been upgraded to:

  1. Manslaughter

Harker was scheduled to appear in court at the Ontario Court of Justice, 10 Armoury Street, on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at 10 a.m., in room 105.
