On April 26th 2021, two off-duty Toronto police officers, Gurmakh Benning and Calvin Au, met up with 19-year-old Chadd Facey at a Brampton park to purchase an Apple Watch. According to reports the watch turned out to be counterfeit and an altercation occurred between the officers and the teen.

The two officers allegedly left the scene and did not report their involvement. Facey was transported to hospital by ambulance where he was subsequently pronounced deceased.

The SUI announced on February 10th 2023 “As a result of the SIU investigation, Constable Calvin Au is charged with one count of manslaughter and one count of aggravated assault, contrary to sections 236(b) and 268 of the Criminal Code, respectively.”
