RCMP officers in Cross Lake responded to a report of a shooting at a home in Pimicikamak Cree Nation on August 16, 2025, at 5:40 pm.

When they arrived, they were informed that a 13-year-old boy had been shot. He was taken to the local Nursing Station, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police are treating the incident as a homicide.

A 17-year-old male was taken into custody at the scene, and charged with Manslaughter.
