Charges laid in the death of 17-year-old Braiden Jacob

Thunder Bay police responded to a report of a 
passerby seeing what they believed to be a body at the southern portion of Chapples Park, on December 9th at 11:30am.

Police arrived to find the body of a young man deceased. The victim was transported to Toronto where an autopsy was performed on December 12th. The results of the examination confirmed the body discovered was that of Braiden Jacob, 17, who had been reported missing earlier.

Thunder Bay Police arrested and charged a 22-year-old male in connection with the homicide of Braiden Jacob. Police said the man was arrested on December 14th at approximately 5:00pm.  The accused is facing a charge of second degree murder and is scheduled to appear in court on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018.

Geofrey Christopher Corbeil dies of a gunshot wound in Thunder Bay’s latest homicide

Thunder Bay Police responded to 300 block of South Brodie Street on a report of possible gunshots on November 11th.

Police arrived at the scene to find Geofrey Christopher Corbeil, 35, suffering from serious life-threatening injuries. EMS rushed Corbeil to hospital where he died of his injuries.

Thunder Bay – Four charged with the first degree murder of Ashley Chantal McKay

Thunder Bay Police were called an apartment in the 200 block of Cumming Street on October 30th  at approximately 5:30 a.m.

Police arrived to find Ashley Chantal McKay, 25, deceased at he scene. Police said the death of McKay is a homicide, cause of death has not been released at this time.

Marlene Lou Kwandibens, 37, Roger Donald McKay, 34, Darren Steven Oombash, 24, and Terryl Nicole Irene Michon, 21, have all been charged with the first-degree-murder of McKay. Police said the there is no relation between the victim and Roger McKay. All of the accused are from Thunder Bay.

Death of David Hugh Sweeney, of Thunder Bay, being investigated as a homicide

Thunder Bay police responded to a report of an assault at a home located in the 100 block of North Algoma street, on August 31st at approximately 7:00pm.

Police arived at the home to find 59-year-old David Hugh Sweeney deceased. Det. Insp. Ryan Hughes said there was trauma to the body but would not provide any further details. No other information is available at this time.

Amelia Corrie Sainnawap’s death ruled a homicide.

The body of Amelia Corrie Sainnawap, 31, was found in an empty lot on Cumming Street on Wednesday August 22nd.

The Thunder Bay Police Service is investigating the death of Sainnawap as a homicide. No arrests have been made.

63 year old man murdered in Thunder Bay

Thunder Bay police were called to a home on McLaughlin Street, at  around 5:40 a.m. on February 26th. Police arrived to find a 63 year old man dead and a 25 year old woman injured.

The woman was sent to hospital for treatment and was released. Police issued a Canada Wide Warrant for the arrest of Charles Casmey in relation to the homicide. On March 1st,  Charles Casmey was taken into custody when he surrendered to police at approximately 9:25 p.m. Casmey has been charged with Second Degree Murder,Assault Causing Bodily Harm and Fail to Comply with Recognizance.

Nicholas Wendal Baxter, Thunder Bay’s first homicide victim of 2018

Thunder Bay police attended a motel in the 400 block of Cumberland Street North on February 5th at approximately 2:30 pm.

At the scene police located the victim, Nicholas Wendal Baxter, 28, suffering from apparent injuries. Baxter was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries. Police have not released the cause of death.

Christopher Achneepineskum, 45, of Thunder Bay has been charged with 1st degree murder, and Rachel Mary Moonias 36 years of Thunder Bay is charged with Accessory After Fact to Murder.

The July death of Barbara Kentner, now deemed a homicide

Brayden Bushby was charged with aggravated assault in February 2017 after thowing a trailer hitch at Barbara Kentner, 34, on January 29th.

Kentner required surgery after being hit in the torso by the trailer hitch. Barbara Kenter died in hospital a little over five months after the incident, on July 4.

Brayden Bushby 19, has now been charged with second degree murder. Bushby made his first court appearance on November 3rd.

Bert Isaac Wood, has been identified as Thunder Bay’s latest Homicide victim

Thunder Bay police received a call to check on the welfare of a man on September 10th at approximately 11:26am at a home in the area of Syndicate Avenue North.

Police arrived to find one man dead and two other people who had been  assaulted.

The deceased has been identified as Bert Isaac Wood, 24. Police said the cause of death will not be released as the matter is now before the courts.

Update September 15th – Accused identity released.
Nazareth Alexander Nelson, 35, was arrested the evening of September 10 and charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault and attempted murder.
