At approximately 12:30 a.m. on July 10, Swan River RCMP responded to a call about an injured man at a home in Sapotaweyak Cree Nation.
Emergency services arrived quickly and found a 57-year-old man with life-threatening injuries. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His death is now being treated as a homicide.
Following the initial investigation, a 20-year-old man was arrested at a nearby home. He remains in custody. Police confirmed that the two individuals were known to each other.
Update: Santana Genaille, 20, has now been charged with second-degree murder.
The Swan River RCMP, with support from the RCMP Major Crime Services and Forensic Identification Services, continues to investigate the incident.
