Second-Degree Murder Charge Filed in Sioux Lookout Infant Death Investigation

Ontario Provincial Police in Sioux Lookout have charged a 26-year-old from Sandy Lake First Nation with second-degree murder in connection with the death of an infant.

The case dates back to the morning of May 9, when officers were called to a home on Sturgeon River Road just before 8 a.m. after reports that a five-month-old baby was unresponsive. Emergency crews rushed the child to the hospital, but tragically, the infant was later pronounced dead.

After what police describe as a detailed and thorough investigation, charges were laid for second-degree murder and for failing to provide the necessities of life. The accused remains in custody and was scheduled for a virtual court appearance in Dryden on Thursday, December 11th.

Investigators are still encouraging anyone with additional information to contact the Sioux Lookout OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
