British Columbia 2026 Homicide Victim List

On January 5, 2026, the Saanich Police Major Crime Unit began looking into a suspicious death at a home on the 1600 block of Blair Avenue.

The investigation is now being handled by the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU). Residents can expect a noticeable police presence in the area as detectives continue their work.

One person is currently in custody in connection with the incident. According to an update from the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit, Muhammed Basar has been charged in connection with the killing. He remains in custody and is scheduled to make his next court appearance on Jan. 21.
