Russell RCMP investigating a homicide near the Airport

Russell RCMP responded to a report of an assault on Highway 16 near the Russell Airport on August 14th at approximately 12:30am.

Police arrived to find a 40-year-old man in medical distress. The victim was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries. The victim’s identity and cause of death have not been released at this time. 

Russell RCMP and Major Crime Services continue to investigate.

Update March 5th 2021
On March 1st, RCMP arrested two men and a woman from the Gambler First Nation in relation to the homicide of Matthew Swain, 40.

34-year-old Robert Fleury was charged with Manslaughter and 29-year-old Desmond Tanner was charged with 2nd Degree Murder. Both accused were remanded into custody. The 24-year-old female was later released from custody without charge.
