Carrot River RCMP responded to the report of a male who had been stabbed at a home in Red Earth Cree Nation, on August 21st at approximately 5:45am.
Police arrived to find Brett McKay, 24, suffering from a stab wound. McKay was declared deceased at the scene by EMS.
Police said the investigation revealed that Brett McKay was at a large social gathering in an open area, referred to as “the reservoir”, in Red Earth Cree Nation Friday August 21 and was driven to a house in Red Earth Cree Nation, injured, that same morning.
Richard Flett, 21, was located and arrested by the Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit South with the assistance of Nipawin RCMP and charged with second-degree murder in the killing of McKay.
