Penticton RCMP were notified after the Summerland Fire Department was called the road next to the Penticton Shooting Sports Range, on September 15th.

When firefighters arrived at the scene of the fire, they discovered two deceased individuals and contacted the police. Investigators have determined that these deaths are suspicious. The BC RCMP Serious Crime Unit has since taken carriage of the investigation. The victim’s identities have not been released by police at this time.

A vehicle was later reported to be on fire in Oliver, and investigators from both detachments are working to determine if these incidents are connected.

Update March 8th 2026: The E-Division District Major Crime Unit (MCU) has filed charges connected to the a double homicide.

The BC Prosecution Service has approved two counts of first-degree murder against 36-year-old Yves “Oliver” Grenier for the deaths of Douglas Barker and Alannah Brown. The charges were officially sworn on March 6, 2026. Grenier has been arrested and is currently being held in custody.

“This was an extensive and complex investigation,” said BC RCMP Superintendent Sanjaya Wijayakoon. “We have now charged and made our final anticipated arrest for this investigation. Our thoughts remain with the families of Mr. Barker and Ms. Brown, and we hope that today’s charges provide some measure of progress as the matter proceeds before the courts.”

Update April 24th 2026:
One of five individuals charged in connection with a 2022 double homicide in Penticton has entered a guilty plea to a lesser offence and will remain in custody for additional time.

Jilane Faith King, 43, had originally been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Douglas Barker, as well as accessory after the fact in relation to the death of Alannah Brown.

On April 23, she appeared in Penticton Provincial Court, where she pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with Barker’s death. The court sentenced her to two years in custody less a day, resulting in approximately 451 days remaining to be served behind bars.
