Police were called to the building on Kennedy Road South around 8:40 a.m. for a disturbance. Inside the unit, they found a woman with a serious injury and rushed her to the hospital, but she later died.

According to CTV News the woman, who is believed to be in her 40s, suffered “penetrating trauma.” A child was present during the incident and contacted police.

A man in his 30s, who is known to the woman, has been arrested and faces a charge of second degree murder. Investigators said the death was a case of intimate partner violence.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the homicide unit.
